Gross and general depreciation of the government and its employees has always been offensive to me. My father was my earliest example: an educated and dedicated man who who worked long hours doing his best to enforce water legislation and agreements in the south, all the while knowing and rejecting that he could "do better" in the private world. He was not alone.
I too in my very early years worked in fairly menial jobs for the feds and there found hardworking companions. I could go on to make comparisons with my experiences in private industry, including with fairly senior people in national and international situations, but it is enough to say that there were hardworking and motivated people there. And like the government, a few duds.
As to the content of your contribution. The turn to the right starting in the Regan era is so extreme it seems a U-turn---a reversion in national direction, schemed in close cabal, that has little precedent.
The end point may well resemble the France of Louis XIV---then a country of property owners observient to and depending on the grace of the monarch. The important difference being that then nobels were required to empoverish themselves. Whereas today the oligarchs are keeping plenty enough for themselves. Don't need to think about the peasants. Or, now, the wage earners.
